French electronic music duo Daft Punk has released four studio albums, two live albums, one compilation album, one soundtrack album, three remix albums, two video albums, twenty-two singles and nineteen music videos. Group members Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo met in 1987 while studying at the Lycée Carnot secondary school.[1] They subsequently recorded several demo tracks with each other, forming Daft Punk in 1993.[1] Their debut single 'The New Wave' was released the following year on the Soma Quality Recordings label.[1] Daft Punk first found commercial success with the release of their second single 'Da Funk', which peaked at number seven in France and topped the United States BillboardHot Dance Club Play chart.[2][3]
After signing to Virgin Records, the duo released their debut studio album Homework in March 1997.[4] The album peaked at number three in France, earning a platinum certification from the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP).[2][5] The success of Homework also brought worldwide attention to progressive house music, and it has since been viewed as a landmark album of the genre.[6] The Homework single 'Around the World' became a top five hit in several European countries and gave the duo their first entry on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it peaked at number 61.[2][7] The album also produced the singles 'Burnin' and 'Revolution 909'.
Daft Punk released their second studio album Discovery in February 2001. The album peaked at number two in France and attained a triple platinum certification from the SNEP.[2][8]Discovery also performed well internationally, becoming a top ten chart hit in countries such as Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.[9][10][11] 'One More Time', the album's first single, became a number-one hit in France and on the Billboard dance chart.[2][3] The single also reached the top ten on the charts of Australia, Germany and the United Kingdom.[12][13][14] An additional six singles were released from Discovery: 'Aerodynamic', 'Digital Love', 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger', 'Face to Face' and 'Something About Us'. Daft Punk also oversaw the release of Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, a 2003 film featuring tracks from Discovery as its soundtrack.[15]Human After All, the duo's third studio album, was released in March 2005 to mixed reviews.[16] Nonetheless, the album topped the BillboardDance/Electronic Albums chart and peaked at number three in France.[2][17]Human After All featured the singles 'Robot Rock', 'Technologic', 'Human After All' and 'The Prime Time of Your Life'.
Following their Alive 2006/2007 tour, Daft Punk composed the score for the 2010 film Tron: Legacy and released an accompanying soundtrack album. The album produced the single 'Derezzed' and became the duo's first top five album on the Billboard 200.[2][18] It also received gold certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and the SNEP.[19][20]Random Access Memories, Daft Punk's first studio album in eight years, was released in May 2013 and topped several charts worldwide.[21] In the United States, the album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 339,000 copies.[22] 'Get Lucky', the first single from Random Access Memories, also experienced chart success in several countries.[23] In 2016, Daft Punk was featured on two singles, 'Starboy' and 'I Feel It Coming', from Canadian R&B producer The Weeknd. 'Starboy' topped charts in several countries and received a platinum certification from the RIAA,[20] while 'I Feel It Coming' peaked at number one in France and received a diamond certification from the SNEP.[24]

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind director Michel Gondry's new film, Mood Indigo, is an adaptation of French writer Boris Vian'sL'ecume des jours, which was first published in 1947. It was later translated into English under the titles Froth on the Daydream and Foam of the Daze.
In a short exclusive for BuzzFeed, Gondry describes how the book has had a powerful influence on his work, a sentiment echoed by the producer and stars of Mood Indigo:
Like the generations that preceded and have followed me, I grew up under the influence and inspiration of Boris Vian. Vian seemed to come from my own past, as parts of his L'Écume des jours resonate with my personal life. Most notably, my father's commitment to Duke Ellington, a tutelary figure of L'Écume des jours, whose records he played for me when I was a child.
The memory of reading L'Écume des jours (Mood Indigo) has had an influence on many of my films, especially the music videos I made for Bjork, but also in some aspects of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Science of Sleep, and Be Kind Rewind. It became part of the vocabulary I used unconsciously, while discovering the filmmaking process. Today, it comes naturally to me, coming up with visual solutions — ideas to materialize the world of Boris Vian. It's as if all those years of filming had been a slow preparation for making my film Mood Indigo.

Mood Indigo star Audrey Tautou said of L'Écume des jours, 'I read the novel when I was young, and it was my favorite book.'
Mood Indigo star Romain Duris said of the novel, 'Boris Vian was indignant that society crushes the individual and therefore, at the heart of the book and the film, there is a rebellious and anarchistic spirit that refuses to be enslaved by work.'
Producer Luc Bossi said, 'I read the book as a teenager but it was only later that I realized how much L'Écume des Jours was one of the most visual books in French literature. Its fantastic approach and the tragic love story it tells offered some wonderful cinematographic material. … Very early on I suggested Michel Gondry. I couldn't say that I offered the project to Michel; as soon as I met with him, he told me he'd always wanted to make the film and would always be looking to do the project. It was a meeting of desires... To him, Mood Indigo was like a summary of his career because a part of what he does is influenced by Boris Vian.'
